Price for Grapes; Fresh or Dried in Austria (CIF) - 2023

In August 2023, the average grapes; fresh or dried import price amounted to $2,253 per ton, dropping by -16.1% against the previous month. In general, import price indicated perceptible growth from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.1% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, grapes; fresh or dried import price decreased by -17.4% against June 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 when the average import price increased by 26% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $2,889 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to August 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Spain ($2,953 per ton), while the price for North Macedonia ($1,381 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+4.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average grapes; fresh or dried export price stood at $1,985 per ton in August 2023, declining by -36.8% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, recorded a perceptible expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in December 2022 an increase of 42% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $3,621 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to August 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In August 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Italy ($2,402 per ton) and Slovenia ($2,393 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($1,785 per ton) and Hungary ($1,848 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovenia (+3.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Grapes; Fresh or Dried in Austria

In 2022, supplies from abroad of grapes; fresh or drieds decreased by -4.8% to 49K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 22%.

In value terms, grapes; fresh or dried imports fell to $104M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 25%.

Over the period under review, total exports indicated strong growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.8% over the last three years.
