In November 2023, the average import price for ginger, saffron, tumeric (curcuma), thyme, bay leaves, curry and other spiceses amounted to $6,603 per ton, growing by 3.6% against the previous month. In general, import price indicated a perceptible expansion from November 2022 to November 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.6% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on November 2023 figures, import price for ginger, saffron, tumeric (curcuma), thyme, bay leaves, curry and other spiceses decreased by -32.2% against September 2023 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in September 2023 when the average import price increased by 64% against the previous month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $9,732 per ton. From October 2023 to November 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In November 2023, the country with the highest price was Austria ($8,312 per ton), while the price for Egypt ($1,844 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+9.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for ginger, saffron, tumeric (curcuma), thyme, bay leaves, curry and other spiceses stood at $16,980 per ton in 2022, rising by 1.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average export price increased by 92% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($73,192 per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($8,202 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+26.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
