In 2022, the average export price for ferrous waste and scrap; of stainless steels amounted to $2,420 per ton, rising by 26% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, export price for ferrous waste and scrap; of stainless steels increased by +94.5% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 54% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($4,913 per ton), while the average price for exports to India ($1,420 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+12.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 35% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $2,387 per ton. From February 2023 to December 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices from Russia ($1,856 per ton) and Latvia ($1,778 per ton), while the price for Finland ($1,485 per ton) and Kazakhstan ($1,647 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Latvia (+0.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Exports of Ferrous Waste and Scrap; of Stainless Steel in Estonia
In 2022, shipments abroad of ferrous waste and scrap; of stainless steels decreased by -42.9% to 28K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports saw a perceptible downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 59%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 50K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports of failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, exports of ferrous waste and scrap; of stainless steels dropped significantly to $67M in 2022. In general, exports, however, enjoyed prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 52% against the previous year.

As a result, imports attained the peak of 36K tons, and then declined remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, imports of ferrous waste and scrap; of stainless steels fell markedly to $38M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 110% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $71M, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.
