In December 2021, the average import price for copper plates, sheets and strips amounted to $12,109 per ton, growing by 1.7% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.6%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in August 2021 when the average import price increased by 17% m-o-m. The import price peaked in December 2021.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2021, the country with the highest price was Japan ($14,052 per ton), while the price for the United States ($5,885 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+4.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for copper plates, sheets and strips stood at $10,053 per ton in December 2021, increasing by 4.2% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.4%. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2021 when the average export price increased by 38% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $12,059 per ton in May 2021; however, from June 2021 to December 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In December 2021, the highest price was recorded for prices to India ($12,667 per ton) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($12,667 per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($9,137 per ton) and Hong Kong SAR ($9,186 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Copper Plates, Sheets and Strip in Vietnam
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was decline in overseas purchases of copper plates, sheets and strips, when their volume decreased by -1.1% to 30K tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 5.5% against the previous year.
