In 2022, the average import price for cocoa beans; whole or broken, raw or roasteds amounted to $2,573 per ton, increasing by 3.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a modest increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the average import price increased by 73%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $6,395 per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from Ghana ($2,710 per ton) and Cote d'Ivoire ($2,641 per ton), while the price for Nigeria ($2,309 per ton) and Ecuador ($2,457 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Cote d'Ivoire (+1.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average export price for cocoa beans; whole or broken, raw or roasteds stood at $2,216 per ton in 2022, surging by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded mild growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 129%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $3,028 per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($2,859 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($1,148 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Estonia (+20.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +49.6% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
