Price for Cereals; Millet, Other than Seed in Uganda (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average export price for cereals; millet, other than seeds amounted to $712 per ton, which is down by -12.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 77%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $811 per ton, and then contracted in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Rwanda ($2,577 per ton), while the average price for exports to Tanzania ($52 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Rwanda (+26.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for cereals; millet, other than seeds stood at $302 per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -44.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a temperate increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average import price increased by 81%. The import price peaked at $540 per ton in 2021, and then declined significantly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($704 per ton), while the price for Tanzania ($79 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+9.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Cereals; Millet, Other than Seed in Uganda
After two years of decline, overseas shipments of cereals; millet, other than seeds increased by 19% to 28 tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a sharp decline.
In value terms, cereals; millet, other than seed exports rose modestly to $20K in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
