The average import price for buckwheat, millet and canary seed; other cerealses stood at $690 per ton in 2022, surging by 32% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.3%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($2,641 per ton), while the price for Ukraine ($412 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+9.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 145% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $2,987 per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($6,639 per ton), while the average price for exports to Indonesia ($882 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Thailand (+15.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of buckwheat, millet and canary seed; other cerealses decreased by -45.3% to 8.4K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, imports, however, posted temperate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 133%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 17K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports of remained at a lower figure.
