In August 2023, the average import price for broad beans and horse beans (dry) amounted to $644 per ton, declining by -19.5% against the previous month. In general, the import price saw a pronounced curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 when the average import price increased by 86% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $1,586 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to August 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($3,042 per ton), while the price for Canada ($510 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Peru (+2.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, the average export price for broad beans and horse beans (dry) amounted to $1,088 per ton, waning by -3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average export price increased by 50%. The export price peaked at $1,196 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($1,606 per ton), while the average price for exports to Japan ($617 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (-0.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Imports of Broad Bean and Horse Bean in the United States
In 2022, the amount of broad beans and horse beans (dry) imported into the United States declined to 12K tons, falling by -12.5% against the previous year.
