In May 2023, the average import price for anise, badian, fennel and coriander amounted to $644 per ton, waning by -1.7% against the previous month. In general, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in December 2022 when the average import price increased by 51% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $1,148 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to May 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was India ($1,191 per ton), while the price for Russia ($229 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From May 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+1.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average export price for anise, badian, fennel and coriander stood at $981 per ton in 2022, waning by -21.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average export price increased by 50% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1,244 per ton in 2021, and then fell markedly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Azerbaijan ($3,667 per ton), while the average price for exports to Kyrgyzstan ($266 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2017 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kyrgyzstan (+18.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Anise, Badian, Fennel and Coriander in Uzbekistan

In 2022, imports of anise, badian, fennel and coriander into Uzbekistan fell to 5.2K tons, shrinking by -3% against the year before. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 87% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 5.4K tons, and then dropped in the following year.
