Preserved Sauerkraut Price in Panama (CIF) - 2023

The average preserved sauerkraut import price stood at $2,032 per ton in November 2023, with an increase of 28% against the previous month. In general, the import price continues to indicate modest growth. The import price peaked at $2,484 per ton in August 2023; however, from September 2023 to November 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In November 2023, the country with the highest price was Spain ($3,640 per ton), while the price for China ($831 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+4.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Preserved Sauerkraut Price in Panama (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average preserved sauerkraut export price amounted to $2,360 per ton, rising by 103% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 115%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $4,322 per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Barbados ($3,759 per ton), while the average price for exports to Guyana ($1,437 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Barbados (+63.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Preserved Sauerkraut Imports in Panama

In 2022, purchases abroad of preserved sauerkraut decreased by -18.6% to 4.7K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, imports recorded a slight shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 15%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 5.7K tons, and then dropped sharply in the following year.

In value terms, preserved sauerkraut imports fell to $8.5M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $9.3M, and then dropped in the following year.

In 2022, overseas shipments of preserved sauerkraut were finally on the rise to reach 4.7 tons after two years of decline. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a dramatic setback.

In value terms, preserved sauerkraut exports surged to $11K in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, faced a dramatic downturn.
