Preserved Sardines Price in China (FOB) - 2023
In June 2023, the average preserved sardines export price amounted to $2,112 per ton, stabilizing at the previous month. Overall, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2022 an increase of 9.2% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $2,352 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to June 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Gabon ($2,855 per ton), while the average price for exports to Singapore ($1,344 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Africa (+1.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Preserved Sardines Price in China (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average preserved sardines import price amounted to $4,953 per ton, increasing by 2.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the average import price increased by 28%. The import price peaked at $5,477 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($25,810 per ton), while the price for the Philippines ($2,429 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+8.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Preserved Sardines Exports in China
In 2022, approx. 83K tons of sardines (prepared or preserved) were exported from China; remaining constant against the previous year's figure. In general, total exports indicated a significant increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +26.8% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +104.1% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 83%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, preserved sardines exports amounted to $190M in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a significant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +22.3% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +83.1% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 49%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
