The country with the largest volume of plastic ornamental articles production was China (716K tons), accounting for 70% of total volume. Moreover, plastic ornamental articles production in China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, the Netherlands (145K tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by India (36K tons), with a 3.5% share.
In China, plastic ornamental articles production declined by an average annual rate of -4.3% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: the Netherlands (+0.9% per year) and India (-0.2% per year).
Imports

In 2022, overseas purchases of statuettes and other ornamental articles of plastic increased by 10% to 596K tons, rising for the sixth consecutive year after three years of decline. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +76.8% against 2016 indices. Overall, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +94.1% against 2016 indices. The United States was the key importing country with an import of about 223K tons, which amounted to 37% of total imports. Hong Kong SAR (48K tons) held an 8% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Germany (5.1%) and India (4.8%). The Netherlands (20K tons), France (20K tons), the UK (19K tons), Russia (12K tons), Belgium (9.2K tons), Iraq (9.1K tons) and Spain (9.1K tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
The United States was also the fastest-growing in terms of the statuettes and other ornamental articles of plastic imports, with a CAGR of +14.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Hong Kong SAR (+11.5%), India (+10.2%), Iraq (+5.0%), France (+3.5%), the UK (+1.4%) and Belgium (+1.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Germany experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Spain (-1.1%), Russia (-3.2%) and the Netherlands (-4.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the United States (+23 p.p.), Hong Kong SAR (+3.8 p.p.) and India (+2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the global imports from 2012-2022, the share of Germany (-2.3 p.p.), Russia (-2.3 p.p.) and the Netherlands (-5.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest plastic ornamental articles importing markets worldwide were the United States ($908M), Hong Kong SAR ($491M) and Germany ($279M), together comprising 45% of global imports.
Hong Kong SAR, with a CAGR of +17.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices By Country
The average plastic ornamental articles import price stood at $6,188 per ton in 2022, growing by 13% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, China ($5.8B) remains the largest plastic ornamental articles supplier worldwide, comprising 86% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Netherlands ($137M), with a 2% share of global exports.
