Oat Price in Japan (CIF) - 2023
The average oat import price stood at $642 per ton in July 2023, with an increase of 5.9% against the previous month. Over the period from September 2022 to July 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.6%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2023 when the average import price increased by 55% against the previous month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $739 per ton. From June 2023 to July 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Chile ($1,083 per ton), while the price for Canada ($467 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Australia (+7.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Oat Price in Japan (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average oat export price amounted to $622 per ton, reducing by -41.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, enjoyed a modest expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 183% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $2,249 per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for the United States.
From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Vietnam amounted to +68.8% per year.
Oat Imports in Japan
For the fourth consecutive year, Japan recorded growth in purchases abroad of oats, which increased by 2.6% to 49K tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, oat imports skyrocketed to $27M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +9.8% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Oat Exports in Japan
In 2022, shipments abroad of oats decreased by -79.7% to 13 tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, exports faced a sharp downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 242% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 92 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, oat exports fell remarkably to $8.1K in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 792% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $129K.
