Newsprint Price in Brazil (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average newsprint import price amounted to $756 per ton, with an increase of 34% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($2,091 per ton), while the price for Russia ($662 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+12.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Newsprint Price in Brazil (FOB) - 2023
The average newsprint export price stood at $575 per ton in August 2023, dropping by -4% against the previous month. In general, the export price continues to indicate a perceptible shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 an increase of 8.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $871 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to August 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In August 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Argentina ($690 per ton) and Chile ($669 per ton), while the average price for exports to India ($500 per ton) and Egypt ($530 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Cuba (0.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Newsprint Imports in Brazil
For the third consecutive year, Brazil recorded decline in overseas purchases of newsprint, which decreased by -15% to 21K tons in 2022. In general, imports saw a precipitous contraction.
