Maize Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023
The average maize export price stood at $295 per ton in July 2023, shrinking by -2.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a mild downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in October 2022 when the average export price increased by 4.2% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $351 per ton in November 2022; however, from December 2022 to July 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In July 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to Colombia ($395 per ton) and Honduras ($300 per ton), while the average price for exports to Canada ($276 per ton) and Japan ($278 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Colombia (-0.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Maize Price in the United States (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average maize import price amounted to $538 per ton, with an increase of 8.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 52% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $787 per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($5,306 per ton), while the price for Romania ($284 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Maize Exports in the United States
After three years of growth, overseas shipments of maize decreased by -16.2% to 58M tons in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +11.8% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +39.9% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 33%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 69M tons, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, maize exports dropped slightly to $19B in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 98% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $19B, leveling off in the following year.

Maize Imports in the United States
In 2022, the amount of maize imported into the United States declined to 605K tons, with a decrease of -7.1% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports faced a deep setback. The smallest decline of -6.5% was in 2021.
In value terms, maize imports totaled $326M in 2022. Overall, imports saw a noticeable shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 1.4%.
