Maize Price in Lithuania (CIF) - 2023
In September 2023, the average maize import price amounted to $256 per ton, stabilizing at the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 when the average import price increased by 23% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $468 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to September 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Poland ($246 per ton), while the price for Ukraine amounted to $235 per ton.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (-0.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Maize Price in Lithuania (FOB) - 2022
The average maize export price stood at $349 per ton in 2022, jumping by 34% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ireland ($761 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($317 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+11.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Maize Imports in Lithuania
In 2022, overseas purchases of maize were finally on the rise to reach 266K tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, showed a deep reduction.
In value terms, maize imports soared to $83M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in shipments abroad of maize, when their volume increased by 74% to 173K tons. In general, exports, however, recorded a abrupt curtailment.
In value terms, maize exports soared to $60M in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a buoyant increase. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
