Lentil Price in Qatar (CIF) - 2023
The average lentil import price stood at $849 per ton in June 2023, declining by -4.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price showed a slight contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2022 an increase of 12% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $1,101 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to June 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($1,067 per ton), while the price for Canada ($825 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+2.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Lentil Imports in Qatar
In 2022, overseas purchases of lentils decreased by -6% to 12K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports recorded a mild downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 3.2% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 13K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, lentil imports surged to $12M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 31%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
