Flax Fiber Price in New Zealand (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average flax fiber import price amounted to $51,572 per ton, leveling off at the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 173%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $63,015 per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($102,687 per ton), while the price for Denmark ($7,647 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ireland (+27.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, the average flax fiber export price amounted to $3,280 per ton, leveling off at the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a slight curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average export price increased by 62% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $5,861 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($6,726 per ton), while the average price for exports to Canada ($98 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Australia (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2022, purchases abroad of flax fiber decreased by -23.3% to 2.2 tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports saw a perceptible setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 3.3 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, flax fiber imports reduced markedly to $115K in 2022. In general, imports showed a deep downturn. In value terms, flax fiber exports skyrocketed to $774 in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +6.9% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
