Flax Fiber Price in Canada (CIF) - 2022
The average flax fiber import price stood at $961 per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -4.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a pronounced curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 4.5% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $1,281 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from the United States ($961 per ton) and Sweden ($961 per ton), while the price for France ($961 per ton) and Austria ($961 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sweden (+0.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Flax Fiber Price in Canada (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average flax fiber export price amounted to $1,300 per ton, which is down by -9.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a abrupt slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 2,712% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $5,522 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($778 per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK amounted to $738 per ton.
From 2014 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (-15.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Flax Fiber Imports in Canada
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of flax fiber, when their volume decreased by -26.9% to 67 tons. In general, imports, however, posted a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 149%.
In value terms, flax fiber imports fell notably to $65K in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 154% against the previous year.
