Extracts of Tea Price in New Zealand (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average extracts of tea import price amounted to $10,387 per ton, surging by 3.2% against the previous year. In general, the import price enjoyed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average import price increased by 71%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $11,485 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were Malaysia ($10,388 per ton) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($10,387 per ton), while the price for Singapore ($10,387 per ton) and China ($10,387 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Australia (+11.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Extracts of Tea Price in New Zealand (FOB) - 2022
The average extracts of tea export price stood at $11,576 per ton in 2022, picking up by 15% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, extracts of tea export price increased by +31.4% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 61% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $12,549 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Australia ($11,577 per ton) and Fiji ($11,577 per ton), while the average price for exports to Samoa ($11,573 per ton) and China ($11,575 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Fiji (+10.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Extracts of Tea Imports in New Zealand
After three years of growth, overseas purchases of extracts, essences and concentrates of tea or mate decreased by -32.6% to 246 tons in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a tangible increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 44%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 365 tons, and then declined rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, extracts of tea imports fell significantly to $2.6M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a slight expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 38%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $3.7M, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.
