Dried Onion Price in Brazil (CIF) - 2023
The average dried onion import price stood at $1,716 per ton in June 2023, almost unchanged from the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 3.3% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $2,175 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to June 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($4,417 per ton), while the price for India ($1,630 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+1.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Dried Onion Price in Brazil (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average dried onion export price amounted to $2,293 per ton, increasing by 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 117%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $5,614 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Panama ($9,661 per ton), while the average price for exports to Egypt ($700 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Liberia (+8.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Dried Onion Imports in Brazil
In 2022, approx. 10K tons of dried onions were imported into Brazil; picking up by 2% against the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +13.7% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, dried onion imports totaled $23M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated significant growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +21.7% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +80.4% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 45% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
