Citrus Fruit Price in Mexico (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average citrus fruit export price amounted to $1,024 per ton, increasing by 16% against the previous year. Overall, the export price posted buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 44% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $1,135 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($1,028 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands stood at $743 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+8.8%).

Citrus Fruit Price in Mexico (CIF) - 2022

The average citrus fruit import price stood at $875 per ton in 2022, surging by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average import price increased by 91% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $1,000 per ton. From 2018 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Peru ($1,487 per ton), while the price for the United States totaled $854 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+10.9%).

Citrus Fruit Exports in Mexico

Citrus fruit exports from Mexico shrank to 788K tons in 2022, which is down by -7.3% compared with the previous year. In general, total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +10.7% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +51.8% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 64% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 850K tons, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, citrus fruit exports expanded rapidly to $807M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a remarkable increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +10.4% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +45.8% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Citrus Fruit Imports in Mexico

In 2022, overseas purchases of citrus fruits decreased by -19.4% to 34K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.6% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +24.4% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 50%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 42K tons, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, citrus fruit imports reduced slightly to $30M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +9.7% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $30M, leveling off in the following year.
