Chocolate Price in Germany (CIF) - 2023
In June 2023, the average chocolate import price amounted to $4,040 per ton, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.0%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 7.9% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $4,042 per ton in May 2023, and then dropped in the following month.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices from Belgium ($4,267 per ton) and Italy ($4,093 per ton), while the price for the Netherlands ($3,271 per ton) and Poland ($3,375 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+2.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Chocolate Price in Germany (FOB) - 2023
The average chocolate export price stood at $3,999 per ton in June 2023, remaining constant against the previous month. Over the period from June 2022 to June 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.3%. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 8.7% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum in June 2023.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Austria ($5,333 per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($3,322 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+4.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Chocolate Imports in Germany
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was decline in supplies from abroad of chocolate and other food preparations containing cocoa, when their volume decreased by -2% to 169K tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period.
