Canned Vegetable Price in Norway (CIF) - 2023
In September 2023, the average canned vegetable import price amounted to $2,178 per ton, growing by 4.8% against the previous month. Over the period from September 2022 to September 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 when the average import price increased by 10% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $2,266 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to September 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Hungary ($3,040 per ton), while the price for China ($1,298 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hungary (+4.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Canned Vegetable Price in Norway (FOB) - 2023
The average canned vegetable export price stood at $4,652 per ton in September 2023, with an increase of 2% against the previous month. Overall, export price indicated a mild expansion from September 2022 to September 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.4% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2023 figures, canned vegetable export price increased by +53.8% against July 2023 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in August 2023 an increase of 51% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $5,765 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to September 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Iceland ($6,384 per ton), while the average price for exports to Ireland ($4,005 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ireland (+4.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Canned Vegetable Imports in Norway
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was decline in purchases abroad of canned vegetables, when their volume decreased by -1.7% to 48K tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 11% against the previous year.
In value terms, canned vegetable imports reduced slightly to $87M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +8.6% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 16% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $89M, and then contracted slightly in the following year.
