Areca Nut Price in Malaysia (CIF) - 2023
The average areca nut import price stood at $534 per ton in October 2023, leveling off at the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in August 2023 when the average import price increased by 45% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $1,778 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to October 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Myanmar ($1,523 per ton), while the price for India ($319 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Myanmar (+16.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Areca Nut Price in Malaysia (FOB) - 2023
The average areca nut export price stood at $561 per ton in October 2023, with a decrease of -47.8% against the previous month. In general, the export price showed a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 an increase of 141% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $1,082 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to October 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was India ($1,199 per ton), while the average price for exports to Sri Lanka ($379 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sri Lanka (+1.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
