Aluminium Price in China (CIF) - 2023
In September 2023, the average aluminium import price amounted to $2,285 per ton, picking up by 4.2% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The import price peaked at $2,414 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to September 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Indonesia ($2,333 per ton) and Australia ($2,306 per ton), while the price for Iran ($2,265 per ton) and Russia ($2,274 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+1.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Aluminium Price in China (FOB) - 2023
In August 2023, the average aluminium export price amounted to $2,197 per ton, stabilizing at the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in December 2022 when the average export price increased by 34% m-o-m. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $3,560 per ton. From January 2023 to August 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Tanzania ($3,461 per ton), while the average price for exports to South Korea ($2,139 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia (+3.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Aluminium Imports in China
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of aluminum (unwrought, not alloyed), when their volume decreased by -39.6% to 954K tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 1,312% against the previous year.
In value terms, aluminium imports fell sharply to $2.5B in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 1,180%.

After two years of decline, overseas shipments of aluminum (unwrought, not alloyed) increased by 3,534% to 257K tons in 2022. Overall, exports enjoyed a significant expansion. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
