The global dairy spread market fell to $X in 2022, reducing by -12.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the total consumption indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last decade. In 2022, overseas shipments of dairy spreads were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a perceptible decline. The global exports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, dairy spread exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 25%. The global exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Belarus (X tons), New Zealand (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons), Australia (X tons), Germany (X tons), France (X tons), Ireland (X tons), Greece (X tons), Russia (X tons), Ukraine (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) represented roughly 88% of total exports in 2022.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Greece (with a CAGR of +68.3%), while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest dairy spread supplying countries worldwide were Belarus ($X), New Zealand ($X) and Belgium ($X), with a combined 52% share of global exports. Germany, Saudi Arabia, Australia, France, Ireland, the Netherlands, Greece, Ukraine and Russia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 38%.

Greece, with a CAGR of +69.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average dairy spread export price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 11% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 25%. The global export price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Global imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, dairy spread imports shrank to $X in 2022. In general, imports showed a slight reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 28%. Over the period under review, global imports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Russia (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) represented roughly 27% of total imports in 2022. Oman (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 7.5% share, followed by Spain (5.7%). The United Arab Emirates (X tons), Portugal (X tons), Slovakia (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Romania (X tons), the UK (X tons), France (X tons) and Germany (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

In value terms, the largest dairy spread importing markets worldwide were South Korea ($X), Russia ($X) and Oman ($X), together accounting for 33% of global imports.

Oman, with a CAGR of +54.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average dairy spread import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 9.7% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.1%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 16% against the previous year. Global import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($X per ton), while the Czech Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
