In 2021, the amount of way-type unit heads for working metal exported in the European Union surged to X tons, with an increase of 147% compared with 2020. In general, exports continue to indicate a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 874%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, way-type unit head exports expanded notably to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 25%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

The Netherlands dominates exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was approx. 96% of total exports in 2021. Hungary (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

Exports from the Netherlands increased at an average annual rate of +42.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Hungary (+80.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Hungary emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +80.4% from 2012-2021. While the share of the Netherlands (+37 p.p.) and Hungary (+2.1 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the largest way-type unit head supplier in the European Union, comprising 22% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Hungary ($X), with a 0.6% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in the Netherlands amounted to +24.1%.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, declining by -56.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a precipitous slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 238%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while the Netherlands totaled $X per ton.

At the same time, Hungary (+72.8%), Poland (+14.0%), Denmark (+12.5%), Belgium (+10.0%) and Italy (+7.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Hungary emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +72.8% from 2012-2021. The Netherlands (+28 p.p.) and Hungary (+7.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by Italy, with an 8.5% share.
