Exports in the EU

In 2023, the amount of uncoated kraft liner exported in the European Union was estimated at X tons, flattening at the year before. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012 to 2023; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2021; however, from 2022 to 2023, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, uncoated kraft liner exports fell to $X in 2023. Total exports indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2023: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eleven-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2022, and then fell in the following year.

Exports by Country

Sweden represented the main exporting country with an export of about X tons, which finished at X% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Finland (X tons), Poland (X tons), Austria (X tons), France (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Portugal (X tons), together making up a X% share of total exports.

Sweden experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of uncoated kraft liner. At the same time, Finland (X%), the Netherlands (X%), Austria (X%) and France (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Finland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. Poland experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Portugal (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Finland (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2023, the share of Poland (X p.p.), Portugal (X p.p.) and Sweden (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Sweden ($X) remains the largest uncoated kraft liner supplier in the European Union, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Finland ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Poland, with an X% share.

In Sweden, uncoated kraft liner exports expanded at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012-2023. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Finland (X% per year) and Poland (X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2023, which is down by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2022, and then declined in the following year.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2023, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in France ($X per ton) and Portugal ($X per ton), while Finland ($X per ton) and Poland ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in the EU

For the third consecutive year, the European Union recorded decline in overseas purchases of uncoated kraft liner, which decreased by X% to X tons in 2023. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2023, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, uncoated kraft liner imports shrank remarkably to $X in 2023. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by X%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2022, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2023, Germany (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the largest importers of uncoated kraft liner in the European Union, together comprising X% of total imports. Spain (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by the Netherlands (X tons), France (X tons) and Belgium (X tons). All these countries together held approx. X% share of total imports. Denmark (X tons), Poland (X tons), Greece (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Finland (X tons), Romania (X tons) and Austria (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Romania (with a CAGR of X%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Italy ($X) and Spain ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2023, together accounting for X% of total imports. The Netherlands, France, Belgium, Poland, Denmark, the Czech Republic, Greece, Austria, Romania and Finland lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Romania, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2023, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, declining by X% against the previous year.
